In an episode of Teen Mom OG dubbed “Unseen Moments,” Amber Portwood broke her silence for the first time about a tragic event from her past that has profoundly affected her life.

The famous person spoke candidly about how the tragic events surrounding the death of her younger sister more than 20 years ago affected her identity as a mother.

There were several stunning disclosures in this episode, but what really got everyone’s attention were Amber’s nostalgic flashbacks of her childhood.

I will never forget seeing her being wheeled out on a stretcher… In my entire life, I’ve seen worse.

My sister died of sudden infant death syndrome when I was 5 years old.

She was a newborn when they were both little (James).

Amber was doing a wonderful job raising her son James, but she recently gave him over to her ex-partner so that he could care for him while she dealt with her melancholy.

After taking such good care of James for so long, I finally had to turn him over to Andrew one night.

I couldn’t do it for some reason, and I have no clue why.

Not even with Leah did I experience anything similar to how I do right now.

There was this bizarre pressure building up inside of me, and I felt like I was about to burst.

What is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

There is an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) developing in infants who have not yet reached the age of one year.

The SIDS is a fatal disease whose underlying cause is not completely understood.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a number of doctors and other medical professionals are of the opinion that the illness is associated with birth disorders in regions of the brain that are accountable for controlling an infant’s breathing and rousing them from slumber.
